Sarasota School Board Member Karen Rose is a former chair of the board and a conservative who has been a central figure in recent controversies.
She was defeated for her District 2 seat by Liz Barker, but was recently reappointed to the board by Governor Ron DeSantis to fill a different seat vacated by Tim Enos.
During her time on the board, Rose was instrumental in the ouster of former Superintendent Brennan Asplen and the redrawing of district lines. She also called for the resignation of fellow board member Bridget Ziegler amid a scandal involving Ziegler’s husband.
She faced criticism Rose for taking too much credit for the district’s successes and for failing to adhere to meeting rules.
