The Florida Gators will play in the Gainesville Regional championship game on Sunday evening against either the Miami Hurricanes or Troy Trojans — depending on who wins the elimination game played at noon ET. Kevin O’Sullivan’s squad outlasted the Rider Broncs, 8-7, in the regional opener on Friday afternoon after surrendering a late lead only to walk it off in the ninth inning on a Brendan Lawson home run. The long ball also played a significant role in Florida’s 22-10 victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday night, in which the ball left the yard seven times for the Orange and Blue en route to the rout.
Despite last night’s late finish, the elimination game is still scheduled for noon ET while the championship game follows at 5 p.m. ET. If the Gators fail to prevail tonight, they will play the final game on Monday at a time to be determined.
