We are diving into some fantasy football content this offseason as we look to bring in all sorts of football fans to Bucs Wire. While offensive players often dominate fantasy football discussions, IDP leagues continue to grow in popularity, offering another way for fans to enjoy the game.
We will start with some rookie profiles and how they fit into the landscape of the teams that drafted them. Next up is New England Patriots edge defender Gabe Jacas.
Jacas arrives in the NFL after four productive seasons at Illinois. His best season came in 2025 when he generated 41 pressures, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles, and earned an 88.0 pass-rush grade from PFF. Across four seasons with the Fighting Illini, Jacas developed into one of the most productive edge defenders in the Big Ten and now enters a Patriots defense looking for more pass-rush depth behind its veterans.

Reason to Believe in Gabe Jacas in 2026: Pass-rush production travels
The quickest path to fantasy relevance for Jacas is through his ability to pressure quarterbacks. New England already has established veterans throughout the front seven, but Jacas lands in a situation where he can carve out a role as a rotational pass rusher early in his career.
His college production speaks for itself. Jacas finished his Illinois career with 142 pressures and 28 sacks, consistently demonstrating the ability to convert speed into power. He understands how to attack oversetting tackles, works back inside effectively, and plays with the type of motor that can create cleanup opportunities when quarterbacks extend plays.
The Patriots also have enough veteran talent around him to keep offenses from focusing on the rookie. Players such as Milton Williams, Christian Barmore, and Harold Landry III should command attention, potentially creating favorable one-on-one opportunities for Jacas in sub-package situations.
2026 Outlook
Jacas projects as more of a rotational player than a full-time starter as a rookie, which limits his immediate fantasy ceiling. His run defense remains a work in progress, and New England may choose to use him primarily in passing situations while he develops the rest of his game.
The encouraging part for fantasy managers is that pass-rush specialists can still find value in deeper IDP formats. Jacas has already proven he can finish plays in the backfield, and if injuries occur ahead of him on the depth chart, his role could expand quickly.
For now, fantasy managers should view Jacas as a watch-list player in most redraft leagues and a late-round stash in deeper formats that reward sacks heavily.
