There are two major Hyundai dealerships in Palm Beach County: Napleton’s North Palm Hyundai, at 3703 Northlake Blvd., in the Lake Park/Palm Beach Gardens area and West Palm Beach Hyundai, on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach.
Now a Hyundai recall could affect over 421,000 vehicles because of an issue in which the brakes may activate unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
There’s no mention if any of the vehicles possibly affected came from Florida dealers.
Software in the recalled vehicles’ front cameras could cause their forward collision avoidance system to “activate prematurely,” and apply the brakes when the driver isn’t expecting it, according to a NHTSA safety recall report issued on May 19.
Between October 2024 and April 2026, Hyundai received 376 reports of the brakes activating unexpectedly, according to the report. Four reports state that they were involved in crashes in which their vehicles were rear-ended by vehicles following closely behind them. From the crashes, four injuries were reported.
There have been no fatalities or confirmed fires attributed to the recalled cars braking unexpectedly.
Here’s what to know about the recall.
What Hyundai vehicles are being recalled?
The following vehicles are being recalled, according to the NHTSA:
A total of 421,078 vehicles are potentially affected by the recall, per the report.
What should you do if you own a recalled vehicle?
Owners of recalled vehicles are expected to receive notification letters by July 17, according to NHTSA.
To remedy the issue with the software, owners can take their recalled vehicles to a Hyundai dealer, where their cars’ front camera software will be updated free of charge.
Owners who believe their cars might be involved in the recall can also search for their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) or state and license plate numbers on NHTSA.gov to see whether their vehicles are included.
