Strong storms are expected to bring heavy rains with gusty winds to the Space Coast as June kicks off, with an unusual summertime cold front forecast across the state.
The storms, on the heels of a small funnel cloud which briefly churned to life in skies above Melbourne during rough storms on Sunday, May 31, were expected to pick up Tuesday, June 2.
“The next couple of days will be fairly wet, with Tuesday being the wettest,” said Scott Kelly, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
Some parts of Central Florida are expected to receive several inches of rainfall along with bouts of lightning and strong winds.
“Most people are not going to be seeing 3 to 4 inches of rain but everybody will get some rainfall,” Kelly said.
The weather will begin to dry out by Thursday, June 4, just after a weak cold front ventures across the state, dropping temperatures between 5 to 7 degrees while bringing increased winds.
“It’ll be breezy with winds between 15 to 20 mph and wind gusts up to 25 mph,” with temperatures dipping into the mid-80s, Kelly said.
