One person was taken into custody after Cocoa Beach police and SWAT officers surrounded a retail shopping area along North Atlantic Avenue following an undisclosed incident at a kava bar early Monday, June 22.
“At this time, the incident is contained; however, we ask that the public avoid the area to allow officers to safely conduct their investigation,” the Cocoa Beach Police Department said in a Facebook post shortly after 10 a.m., adding that the incident happened “in the area of 625 N. Atlantic Ave.”
The area blocked by police is the shopping plaza just north of the Cocoa Beach Library. SWAT officers were also seen at the site, with officers stationed in and around the Dollar General store’s parking area. The Calm Collective Kava Bar, where the incident may have started, is located in the plaza.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office cars were seen at the call.
