A now-former colonel for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was arrested by deputies with her own agency late June 18.
Mindy Von Ansbach Young, who until recently was the colonel for the ECSO’s mental health division and was the officer in charge of court security, fleet maintenance, extra duty and civil, was arrested by ECSO deputies after the Milton Police Department issued a warrant for her arrest.
The ECSO confirmed to the News Journal that Von Ansbach Young was arrested and submitted her resignation prior to the service of her warrant.
The News Journal reached out to Von Ansbach Young for comment regarding her arrest and resignation, but she declined to comment.
The reason for Von Ansbach Young’s arrest was not immediately clear.
When asked for comment, the Milton Police Department directed queries regarding Von Ansbach Young’s charges to their records department. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Von Ansbach Young’s warrant was issued by the MPD.
Von Ansbach Young began her career with the ECSO in 1999 and was later promoted to sergeant in 2010. She then earned promotion to lieutenant in 2014, captain in 2017 and finally colonel in 2018.
Along with her other assigned duties, she also acted as the commander for the crisis negotiations team and was the commander of the crisis intervention team for the ECSO.
During her time with the ECSO, she attended the Florida Leadership Academy and received the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award, an award earned when an entire command staff has completed the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Leadership Series, including the Supervisor Leadership Institute, the Command Leadership Institute and the Executive Leadership Institute.
Prior to her employment with the ECSO, Von Ansbach Young graduated summa cum laude from Troy University with a psychology degree.
