A GoFundMe has been launched for the family of the 14-year-old who was killed in a hit-and-run wreck in Gadsden County on May 16.
Zayden Chev Swango “was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose loss has left a deep void in the hearts of everyone who knew him,” the fundraiser’s webpage says.
“Donations will go toward memorializing Zayden and providing resources for his parents, brothers, and sister, including therapy if needed, as they begin the long journey of healing.”
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and John Yawn Place, about 3½ miles south of Havana. Authorities later identified the motorist as Carrie Sue Widick, 22, of Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was charged with failing to remain at the scene of a hit-and-run involving death.
Widick was heading south on U.S. 27 when she veered off the road and into the shoulder, striking Swango, who was on a bicycle, FHP said. He later died from his injuries.
“We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has shown kindness, compassion, and support during this difficult time,” the GoFundMe page said.
“No one is being asked to donate, but for those who wish to contribute, your generosity will help Zayden’s family remember him and find comfort in the days ahead. Thank you for standing with us and for Zayden.”
As of May 26, at 3:30 p.m. $795 had been raised with a $1,800 goal.
