Florida man said he 'messed up' after vehicle crash at water plant

A man accused June 24 of crashing his vehicle into a pipe at a water treatment plant, causing “a significant disruption to water service and water pressure for many Hobe Sound residents,” has been arrested, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Eliuvar Garza, 24, of Stuart, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, driving with a suspended license with knowledge, failure to use due care, and failure to stop at a stop sign, the sheriff’s office stated.

Investigators reported the incident happened about 9 p.m. June 24 when a person crashed a vehicle into a pipe at a water treatment plant in the Hobe Sound area. The driver is accused of fleeing the scene.

“A nearby resident reported hearing a loud crash and later observed (a) man sitting outside the damaged area,” the sheriff’s office stated. “According to the witness, the individual repeatedly stated, ‘I messed up,’ before running from the scene.”

Sheriff’s officials reported finding Garza when a family member took him to a hospital in connection with injuries sustained in the crash.

“The damage caused by the crash has resulted in a significant disruption to water service and water pressure for many Hobe Sound residents,” the sheriff’s office stated. “At this time, it is unclear how long the interruption will last.”

Additional information was not immediately available the morning of June 25.
