Florida State was able to finish strong in their 2026 recruiting class. It was due to getting players like edge prospect Jalen Anderson to commit to the program.
The 6-foot-3, 241-pounder comes to Tallahassee with a ton of potential after dominating the JUCO ranks for two years Pearl River Community College in Louisiana. However, right now there isn’t a lot of that he can do until spring practice begins. Anderson is choosing to keep tunnel vision during the day-to-day process as he looks to make an impact next season.
“I’ve just got to remember that it’s one day at a time,” Anderson told Warchant. “It’s really just a lot of adjusting. It’s a lot of growing. It’s a lot of competing with myself really, because right now there’s not much I can really do to establish myself. … It’s a lot of T-shirt Olympics, you know. There’s only so much that can be quote-unquote “proven” right now. So, I’m just trying to do everything every day to be the best Florida State football player that I can be.”
Anderson showed as a freshman that he was going to be tough to deal with. He finished with 39 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. His sophomore campaign was even better as he racked up 41 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles. 247Sports JUCO rankings had Anderson listed as the No. 5 overall player, the No. 1 edge, and the No. 2 prospect in Louisiana.
Going the JUCO route isn’t for the weak at heart. Anderson always kept the vision of making to the NFL despite not having offers from major schools. He did begin to have some doubts about making it once his journey in began, but Anderson appreciates what he learned as he was going through it which led to him signing with FSU.
“It’s something that’s not for everybody,” said Anderson. “It’s definitely not for everybody. There was a time when I used to act like, ‘Why me?’ … But I realized that it’s just part of my journey. It’s something that God had for me. And it’s whatever the reason — whether it was because I had to mature more or learn more about about my position or the game or like the fundamentals and nuances of what I’m doing on the field and where I am in space — I think I just developed physically and mentally more as a player.”
Anderson headlines an intriguing group of edge rushers in the 2026 cycle. The Seminoles also have four-star Jaemin Pinckney as well as three-star recruits Chris Carbin and Cam Brooks joining the roster.
