Florida State baseball’s season is over after a 5-4 loss to St. John’s in the Tallahassee Regional final.
The No. 10 national seed Seminoles, the designated away team in the game, exit the regional with two wins and a pair of losses to the Red Storm, who swept the Tallahassee Regional, outscoring opponents 32 –17 over three games.
It’s the first time FSU has failed to win a regional under head coach Link Jarrett when competing in one.
The Seminoles recorded nine hits against St. John’s, but they failed to bring in runs consistently, leaving eight on base. Cal Fisher hit a pair of home runs, including a two-run blast in the ninth to make it a one-run game.
The Johnnies got a big swing from catcher Adam Agresti, a grand slam that put the team ahead 4-2 in the fifth inning.
FSU ends its season with a 40-19 record and 19-11 ACC record. St. John’s moves to 36-24, and will face Alabama in the super regional round.

Cal Fisher’s two-run home run gave the FSU fans at Dick Howser Stadium some life, but John Stuetzer’s line drive is plucked out of the air by Victor Frederick on the mound for the second out.

Carter McCulley strikes out swinging, which brings Cal Fisher to the plate, who crushes his third home run of the tournament, and second of the game, over the right field fence to make it a 5-4 game.

Victor Frederick is back on the mound for St. John’s, who are the home team in this game, and they are three outs away from a regional title and only the second Super Regional appearance in program history.
FSU sends Gabe Fraser, Carter McCulley and Cal Fisher to the plate in the ninth.
Gabe Nard replaces Cole Stokes | 5-2, St. John’s – Bottom 7th inning
Stokes doesn’t record an out, and walks Agresti.
Gabe Nard replaces him to face Will Cowan. Nard forces a pop-up to right field and ends the inning, stranding two runners.

Kevin Mebil gets the first two outs of the inning and is replaced by Cole Stokes with Adam Agresti digging into the batters box.
Mebil throws 1.2 innings, allows no hits and strikes out two, but a pair of wild pitches allowed an unearned run to score. St. John’s has a runner on first base with two outs.
FSU baseball threatens, but records three straight outs | 5-2, St. John’s – Top 7th inning
Carter McCulley leads off the seventh inning with a single and Cal Fisher walks to put a pair of base runners on with no outs.
John Stuetzer hits a shallow pop-up to right field for the first out. Brayden Dowd gets into a 3-2 count but grounds out to first base. It is not a double play, and both runners move up a base to bring Brody DeLamielleure, 3-for-3 today, to the plate.
St. John’s goes to the bullpen and brings in Victor Frederick. He threw two innings, allowed two hits, and struck out three against FSU on Friday. He gets DeLamielleure to ground out on the first pitch. FSU leaves two stranded after getting a pair of base runners with no outs.
St. John’s adds a run after FSU errors | 5-2, St. John’s – Bottom 6th inning
Kevin Mebil strikes out the first batter he faces, and then forces a pop fly in the infield. Ben Barrett and Carter McCulley both go for the ball, which bounces off Barrett’s glove and off McCulley’s head to fall and allow Cristian Bernardini to reach base.
Bernardini attempts to steal second on a hit and run, which helps St. John’s avoid an inning-ending double play as Rob Mansour is thrown out at first base. Mebil slips on his next pitch to move Bernardini to third base, and throws a wild pitch to score an unearned run for St. John’s.
Kevin Mebil replaces John Abraham | 4-2, St. John’s – Mid 6th inning
John Abraham’s day is done. He throws 45 pitches, allows two hits, one a grand slam that earned him the four runs charged to his name.
Kevin Mebil replaces him. He last threw against Miami on May 14.
Mebil has thrown 18.1 innings and holds a 5.89 ERA.

The Johnnies load the bases in the fifth inning as John Abraham is having a hard time finding the zone.
He walks two batters and allows a single to bring Shaun McMillan to the plate. He strikes out McMillan and records the second out, but Adam Agresti hits the first pitch he sees deep to left center field to put St. John’s ahead, 4-2, with a grand slam.
It’s Agresti’s second home run of the weekend against FSU.
Brody DeLamielleure knocks in a run | 2-0, FSU – Mid 5th inning
Cal Fisher draws FSU’s first walk of the game, but he quickly leaves the base paths as John Stuetzer hits into a fielder’s choice. Rob Mansour makes a sliding stop on a hard hit ball up the middle, preventing a base hit and two runners on base with one out.
Stuetzer steals second base on the first pitch of Brayden Dowd’s at-bat. Dowd then earns FSU’s second walk of the inning to bring Brody DeLamielleure to the plate. After a mound visit for St. John’s, Evan Hoeckele works DeLamielleure into a two-strike count.
He tries to steal an out, picking off Stuetzer at second base, but the ball bounces off the glove of second base and into the outfield. Stuetzer moves to third base, and is brought home by DeLamielleure’s third single of the day on the next pitch. Hunter Carns strikes out looking to end the inning.
St. John’s puts a pair on, but John Abraham works out of it | 1-0, FSU – End 4th inning
John Abraham starts to come alive towards the end of the inning, getting a strikeout and a ground out to leave a pair of base runners stranded to end the inning.
He took a few pitches to get warm, but a strikeout of Ayden Frey and a ground ball from Cristian Bernardini ends the trouble for FSU.
Abraham throws 18 pitches in the fourth inning.
John Abraham replaces Payton Manca | 1-0, FSU – Bottom 4th inning
Ben Barrett hits a single in the top half of the fourth inning, but the Seminoles can’t do anything else, grounding into a double play, which ends the inning.
Payton Manca walks the first batter he faces, Shaun McMillan, before throwing a few pickoff attempts to give John Abraham more time to warm up in the bullpen.
Abraham replaces Manca in the fourth inning, and he inherits a base runner at first. Manca goes three innings, two walks, three strikeouts, and one hit allowed on 56 pitches.
Abraham threw 38 pitches against St. John’s on Friday, making his return from injury. Adam Agresti is at the plate.

Payton Manca racks up his second strikeout of the afternoon to lead off the inning, throwing a cutter by Dylan Fitzsimmons at 90 MPH.
He gets a pop out off the bat of John LeGrande and retires Jayder Raifstanger with a strikeout, his third of the afternoon.
He’s thrown 51 pitches through three innings, a season-high. Cole Stokes has been moving around in the Seminoles bullpen.
Cal Fisher blasts a solo home run | 1-0, FSU – Top 3rd inning
Cal Fisher had two home runs in teh regular season. He just hit his second home run of the Tallahassee Regional with a leadoff home run in the third inning.
He goes to the opposite field and it’s hit 102 MPH off his bat with a projected distance of 373 feet.
Both teams leave a runner on in the second | 0-0 – End 2nd inning
Seminoles strand Ben Barrett with Carter McCulley’s fly ball caught in the wind and falling short of a home run. It ends the top half of the inning.
Payton Manca hits Cristian Bernardini with a pitch with two outs, bringing Rob Mansour to the plate. He pops out to John Stuetzer in right field.

Payton Manca allows a walk and an infield single, but gets out of the inning with little disturbance. John LeGrande leads off with a walk, and he gets caught stealing.
Manca picks him off, catching LeGrande in a rundown. Gabe Fraser chases LeGrande down from the shortstop position, and he tags him with the ball twice. LeGrande takes exception to it, and a few words are exchanged, but nothing else happens.
Manca strikes out one and gets a pop-up to end the inning.
Brody DeLamielleure reaches base, but Seminoles leave him on | 0-0 – Mid 1st inning
John Stuetzer leads off with a pop out to foul territory, and Brayden Dowd follows that with a slow dribbling ground ball to first base, which Shaun McMillan collects for an out.
Brody DeLamielleure hits a blop single into center field to get the Seminoles a base runner. Hunter Carns ropes one down the left field line, but it drops foul by a few feet, preventing a double and a potential run. He pops out to third base a couple of pitches later to end his at-bat.

St. John’s turns to Evan Hoeckele. The righty threw 1.2 innings in the Red Storms’ win over FSU on Friday, allowing two hits and no runs.
