FSU baseball commit earns top-10 transfer portal ranking

FSU baseball’s offseason additions continue to receive national recognition, with one of the Seminoles’ newest pitchers earning a spot among the top transfer portal players in college baseball.

On3 recently released its rankings of the top 25 overall players in the 2026 college baseball transfer portal, placing Florida State commit Cayden Suchy at No. 6 nationally. The left-hander heads to Tallahassee after a standout season at UConn that established him as one of the premier pitchers available in the portal.

Suchy arrives at FSU after capturing Big East Pitcher of the Year honors in 2026. He served as UConn’s ace throughout the season, making 14 starts and logging 82 1/3 innings, including one complete game. His consistency at the front of the Huskies’ rotation made him one of the most sought-after arms to enter the transfer portal.

The numbers behind Suchy’s breakout campaign help explain why he climbed so high in On3’s rankings. The southpaw compiled a 2.84 ERA, striking out 94 batters while issuing just 23 walks. His ability to consistently miss bats while limiting free passes made him one of the most efficient starting pitchers in college baseball and an attractive addition for programs looking to strengthen their weekend rotations.

Florida State has placed an emphasis on adding experienced pitching this offseason, and Suchy fits that approach. With more than 80 innings as a weekend starter against Division I competition, he brings a proven track record and immediate experience to a Seminoles staff looking to replace several key contributors from its 2026 roster.

The No. 6 ranking also reflects the caliber of talent Florida State has attracted through the transfer portal. Landing one of the nation’s highest-rated available players gives the Seminoles another established arm capable of making an immediate impact when the 2027 season begins.

For Suchy, the move to Florida State represents the next step after emerging as one of the Big East’s top pitchers. For the Seminoles, it provides another nationally recognized addition as the program continues assembling its roster for the upcoming season.
