Fort Myers man, convicted felon pleas guilty for possessing loaded gun

A Fort Myers man has pleaded guilty for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Walter James Marshall, 31, faces a maximum of 15 years in federal prison after being found with a loaded pistol despite being a previously convicted felon, according to the Office of the State Attorney.

In June 2025, a Fort Myers police officer stopped a car on Palm Avenue in Fort Myers after determining that the car’s license plate number was registered to a different car.

Marshall told the officer that he was driving a friend’s car and he did not have a valid driver’s license. He also told the officer that he doesn’t know if there were any firearms in the car, according to federal documents.

After learning that Marshall has had two previous guilty convictions for driving without a valid license, the arresting officer handcuffed him and searched the vehicle.

A loaded handgun was under the driver’s seat, prompting Marshall’s arrest.

Forensic analysis later showed that Marshall’s DNA was on the trigger of the gun.

Marshall is scheduled for sentencing on May 22.
