Four-star edge rusher Cahron Wheeler’s is set to begin a crucial stretch of official visits as his recruitment heats up heading into the summer. The ESPN top-300 prospect will be in Gainesville from June 4-6 after his visit this weekend with the Clemson Tigers.
The 6-foot-5-inch, 230-pound prospect helped Brooklandville (Maryland) St. Paul capture their first title in 12 years. During his junior campaign, Wheeler tallied 30 tackles and six tackles for loss to go along with four sacks.
This production earned him a No. 128 ranking by On3, where he’s also listed as the No. 3 prospect out of Maryland. Wheeler has risen quickly up the rankings to become a prospect coveted by several Power Four programs.
New head coach Jon Sumrall views the four-star DL as a priority target the Gators can add to an elite haul across both the line of scrimmage. Wheeler’s upcoming official visit could play a significant role in the blue-chip lineman’s decision. Wheeler is listed at No. 108 overall and No. 11 at his position according to the 247Sports composite, while On3 industry rankings have him at Nos. 128 and 14, respectively. He has 21 total offers, including eight SEC teams. Other programs pursuing the blue-chipper include Auburn, Tennessee and Clemson.
Currently, Clemson holds the highest probability of signing Wheeler based on the On3 projection, with a 36.8% chance to land the blue-chip recruit, followed by Florida at 32.2%. Maryland rounds out the top three contenders with a 7.9% chance to sign Wheeler.
