Kevin O’Sullivan’s squad outlasted the Rider Broncs, 8-7, in the regional opener on Friday afternoon after surrendering a late lead only to walk it off in the ninth inning on a Brendan Lawson home run. Dingers also played a significant role in Florida’s 22-10 victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday night, in which the ball left the yard seven times for the Orange and Blue en route to the rout.
The Trojans made it to the championship game after losing to Miami on Friday, 10-5, in a battle that was decided in the late innings. Troy then beat Rider in the elimination bracket on Saturday, 15-7, before prevailing in a rematch against the Hurricanes earlier on Sunday, 9-6, to set up the matchup against the Gators.
If Florida fails to win Sunday’s game, they will try again on Monday against the same foe at a time yet to be determined.
