Horse owners, or those interested in becoming one, are invited to learn more about managing horse farms at the Equine Farm Field Day June 17.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Innovation Arabians at 2552 Tomoka Farms Road in Port Orange.
According to event organizer Ashley Stonecipher, of the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (UF/IFAS), the four-hour field course will teach practical horse farm management through a hands-on educational program on manure composting, soil analysis, equine nutrition and more.
“Come join us at Innovation Arabians Farms for an exciting day filled with learning and hands-on experience designed for horse owners, farm managers, and equine enthusiasts!” according to an announcement promoting the event.
Live demonstration on horse health tips and pasture management
Participants will learn how to manage horse farms more efficiently and sustainably through classes on manure composting, fertilizer basics, soil and forage analysis services, equine nutrition and body conditioning scoring, according to a UF IFAS Extension Volusia County Facebook post.
“This field day will provide research-based information, live demonstrations, and valuable take-home tips to help improve horse health, pasture management, and overall farm stewardship,” the announcement states. “You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and network with other farmers.”
Tickets are $17.85 and include lunch. Ticket sales end June 16.
