Florida basketball is closing in on an agreement to face the George Washington Revolutionaries in the Orange Bowl Classic held inside Amerant Arena in Sunrise, Florida, on Saturday, Dec. 13, according to Swamp247’s Graham Hall.
The two schools have faced each other four times dating back to 1939, splitting them evenly with GW winning the first and most recent meetings, while UF won two straight in between. Three of the four matchups were held in the nation’s capital — though one of them was technically played on a neutral court.
The Gators hold an all-time record of 19-4 in the Orange Bowl Classic.
The last time Florida and George Washington faced off was in the 2016 National Invitation Tournament on the latter’s home court, with the Orange and Blue getting knocked out by a final score of 82-77.
George Washington joins a non-conference schedule for Florida that officially includes the Arizona Wildcats, Duke Blue Devils and UConn Huskies, as well as the Rady Children’s Invitational at the end of November, in which the Gators will compete against the Providence Friars, TCU Horned Frogs and Wisconsin Badgers.
Florida is also finalizing a matchup with the Miami Hurricanes in Jacksonville for early December, pending a contract approval from the ‘Canes.
