PANAMA CITY — An escaped Alabama prisoner was captured in Panama City on June 25.
The Panama City Police Department issued a news release the evening of June 24 announcing that 62-year-old Jackie Dewayne Littrell, an escaped convict, was spotted in the 1100 block of Bayview Avenue in the St. Andrews neighborhood.
Littrell is serving a life prison sentence stemming from a 2014 first-degree robbery conviction out of Colbert County, Alabama. He was on a work-release program when he walked off his assigned job site on June 22.
According to WKRG, a Mobile-based broadcaster, he was working at the Magnolia Landfill in Summerdale, Alabama.
The June 24 release from the PCPD says that they received notice from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office that Littrell was possibly in the city, and asked for the public’s assistance in locating him.
He was taken into custody without incident by Panama City officers on June 25 at 8:04 a.m. He was found near the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Molitor Avenue in Panama City.
Littrell was still in custody at the Bay County Jail and awaiting extradition back to Alabama as of 1 p.m. on June 25.
