Dolphins to release veteran pass rusher who recorded 0 sacks

The Miami Dolphins are releasing veteran pass rusher Matthew Judon, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Judon, 33, was a mid-August addition for the Dolphins that left many scratching their head when it happened. While the four-time Pro Bowler had a decorated history of sacking quarterbacks, Judon entered the year after recording only 9.5 sacks in the 2023 and 2024 seasons combined.

The Dolphins added him to a roster that already featured Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Chop Robinson on the edge, but had severe deficiencies elsewhere.

In 13 games with Miami, Judon didn’t record any sacks. He recorded one tackle for loss and three quarterback hits. His 43.3 grade from PFF is the worst among all Dolphins defensive players who have played at least 15 percent of the team’s snaps.

Judon reacted to the news on his Instagram on Wednesday morning:

The Dolphins traded Phillips earlier in the season and re-added Quinton Bell to the roster over the weekend. Miami ranks No. 13 in the NFL in sacks with 34.
