Dolphins' new QB coach is leaving after less than a week on the job

Nathaniel Hackett’s tenure as the Miami Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach lasted less than a week. The coach is now set to join the Arizona Cardinals as offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Hackett, 46, joined the Dolphins’ staff on Thursday, Jan. 29. Six days later, new Miami head coach Jeff Hafley will have to begin to look elsewhere for a quarterbacks coach.

It’s the fifth offensive coordinator stint of Hackett’s career after he previously led the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, and New York Jets offenses. Hackett also spent one season as head coach of the Denver Broncos, but was fired after leading the team to a 4-11 start.

The outlook at the quarterback position is a bit of a mystery for the Dolphins with Tua Tagovailoa’s time as the team’s starter seemingly over. The only other Dolphins quarterbacks currently under contract for the 2026 season are Quinn Ewers and Cam Miller.

In January, the Dolphins promoted senior passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik to offensive coordinator.
