Florida starting quarterback DJ Lagway is in a walking boot, according to Zach Goodall of Swamp247.
Lagway is dealing with a “new lower-body injury,” per Goodall, and it is being described as “minor and not of long-term concern.” It’s the latest in a series of offseason injuries for the former five-star quarterback. Lagway didn’t throw in spring camp and took a ceremonial snap at the Orange and Blue Game while rehabbing his throwing shoulder, and he also dealt with a “hernia-type” issue.
The Gators start fall camp later this week, and the first game of the season is 33 days away. Lagway won’t be needed for the entirety of the season opener against Long Island, but it’s a red flag if he’s unable to play at all. Lagway has spent the bulk of his early career dealing with injuries. He’s not an injury-prone player, but rather an unlucky one.
Staying healthy is priority No. 1 for Lagway this season. If he can play all of Florida’s games, the Gators have a chance to field one of the more exciting offenses in the SEC. If he goes down, it’s Harrison Bailey time, which might draw a bit less fanfare.
