Cocoa wins district title; Bayside, Holy Trinity, Space Coast earn SSAA wins

Cocoa won the District 6-2A title, while Titusville and Viera earned wins in Week 10 of the FHSAA season.

Holy Trinity, Space Coast and Bayside claimed wins in the final week of the SSAA season. Merritt Island Christian earned a senior night win as well.

Cocoa 38, Astronaut 3

In Titusville, Cocoa defeated Astronaut to win the District 6-2A championship title.

Cocoa’s Champ Smith threw touchdown passes to Zay Hawkins, Tank White and Jayden Maul. Smith also scored one rushing touchdown. Javeon Scott added a 49-yard rushing touchdown and Keelan Gonzalez made a 23-yard field goal in the win for the Tigers. Connor Lamothe put Astronaut on the scoreboard in the first quarter when he made 28-yard field goal.

Cocoa (4-4) will go to Rockledge for Week 11, while Astronaut (5-4) goes to Titusville.

Bayside 28, Cocoa Beach 14

In Palm Bay, Bayside picked up a home win over Cocoa Beach.

The Minutemen built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter after Jackson Raines scored on a 2-yard run and Cajais Robinson intercepted a pass and returned the ball 30 yards for a score.

In the second quarter, Evan Sherburne caught an 8-yard pass from Joey Costa with 40 seconds left before halftime to give the Bears their first points of the night.

Elijah Grimsley scored two rushing touchdowns, and Raul Vernon made a 32-yard field to put Bayside ahead 22-14 in the third quarter. Colston Patterson added one final touchdown for Bayside in the fourth on a 9-yard run.

The Bears finish the SSAA regular season with a record of 3-7. Cocoa Beach’s record moves to 2-8.

Delray Beach Atlantic 48, Eau Gallie 18

Eau Gallie fell on the road in Delray Beach to Atlantic. Xavier Lherrise scored on a 53-yard run, and he threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to TJ Monroe for the Commodores. Atlantic quarterback Pedro Martinez finished the game with two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. Eau Gallie (6-3) is off for Week 11.

Space Coast 49, Stanton 0

Space Coast earned a road win over Stanton in its final game of the SSAA regular season. Quarterback Zion Sandy finished with three passing touchdowns, two of those going to Kadyn Thomas and the other to Junior Fider. Kole Gamble scored two rushing touchdowns, and Bradyn Cook added a touchdown run in the win for the Vipers.

Martin County 19, Heritage 14

In Palm Bay, Martin County defeated Heritage to win the District 13-5A title. The Tigers scored the game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds left in the game.

Quarterback Manny Louis found Amarion Queen for a 50-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds to push the Tigers to the win.

Earlier in the game, Martin County took a 3-0 lead after kicker Max Kennedy made a 23-yard field goal for the only points of the first quarter.

With 1:18 left in the second quarter, Ky’zier Burch caught an 8-yard pass from Jordan Pidala to give the Panthers an 7-3 lead at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Kennedy made another 23-yard field goal to cut the lead down to one. Pidala connected with Cordae Copeland for an 18-yard pass to extend Heritage’s lead with 4:34 to play.

Queen caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Louis with 1:51 left in the game to put the score at 14-12.

Heritage (3-6) will host MCC on Oct. 30.

Holy Trinity 28, Oviedo The Master’s Academy 7

Holy trinity grabbed a road win over The Master’s Academy in their final game of the SSAA season. The Tigers close their regular season with a record of 7-2.

Viera 24, Melbourne 7

Viera earned a district home win over Melbourne in Week 10. Duke Butler finished with two rushing touchdowns for the Hawks.

The Bulldogs’ scored first in the game on Michael Rogers’ 11-yard run in the first quarter. Viera kicker Dominic Maxwell made a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter to put the halftime score at 7-3.

In the third quarter, Eric Nelson scored on a 5-yard run for Viera and Butler scored his first touchdown of the night on a short run. Butler scored his second touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run.

Viera (6-3) will play a home game against Merritt Island next week. Melbourne (6-3) will host Palm Beach Gardens for Week 11.

Carrollwood Day 24, Merritt Island 14

In Tampa, Merritt Island dropped its Week 10 road game against Carrollwood Day. For Week 11, the Mustangs (5-3) will host Viera.

Titusville 42, Palm Bay 0

The Terriers picked up a district win on the road at Palm Bay in Week 10. Titusville quarterback William Billingsley ended the night with two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. Tank Harvey caught both touchdown passes from Billingsley. Peewee Fletcher returned an interception for a touchdown and Camari Jackson scored on a 39-yard run in the win for Terriers as well. Titusville (4-5) will host Astronaut, while Palm Bay (2-7) welcomes Mantanzas in Week 11.

New Smyrna Beach 31, Rockledge 21

In Rockledge, the Raiders fell to New Smyrna Beach in a game for the District 6-4A title.

After a scoreless first quarter, Rockledge scored the first points of the night after Rahiem Cutter ran 50 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter. Todd Cutler Jr. then scored on a 9-yard run for the Barracudas with 5:57 left before halftime. Rockledge kicker Michael Arbor made field goals from 40 yards and 36 yards in the quarter to give the Raiders a 13-7 lead at halftime.

Jace Payne scored a rushing touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Tres Walton to put New Smyrna Beach ahead in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, New Smyrna Beach kicker Declan Botting made a 36-yard field goal and Weston Adams caught a 20-yard pass from Payne to extend the Barracudas’ lead. Robbie Blalock connected with Joseph Watkins Jr. for a 25-yard touchdown pass for Rockledge in the quarter.

The Raiders (3-6) welcome Cocoa for a game in Week 11.

Hawthorne 34, MCC 16

In Melbourne, MCC fell to Hawthorne. The Hustlers’ (2-6) will go to Heritage for their next game.

Merritt Island Christian 42, S.L.A.M. Academy 0

Merritt Island Christian earned a senior night win over S.L.A.M. Academy. Bode Handwork ended the game with three passing touchdowns and Emmerson Hanh scored two rushing touchdowns for the Cougars. Hanh also recovered a fumble and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown in the win. Merritt Island Christian has a regular season record of 9-1.
