Busy Palm Beach road set for overnight construction project

Palm Beach is scheduled to repave busy Worth Avenue, the iconic world-renowned shopping street.

Work will be done overnight beginning at 5 p.m. June 28 with a goal to have the project completed by the morning of July 3, Deputy Town Engineer Julie Parham said. The work could be delayed if rain disrupts the schedule, she said.

Palm Beach’s contractor plans to work from east to west, Parham said. The 100 block of Worth Avenue will be milled first, with work starting after 5 p.m. The block will reopen by 5 a.m. the following day, she said.

Roads will be reopened during the day, Parham said. Repaving each block should take two nights, with one night needed to mill the road, and another to pave it, she said.

Work will be done between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. in the 200 and 300 blocks of Worth Avenue and start earlier in the 100 block because of the residences there, Parham said.

The work is part of the town’s larger 10-year, $128 million project to move all overhead utility lines underground, she said. After the town’s contractors move those lines underground, crews follow to repave the roads.

That construction is slated to be complete by the spring of 2027, officials have said.

Across town on the North End — but unrelated to the undergrounding project — crews are repaving North County Road between Dunbar Road and Kawama Lane, officials said. Traffic flowing in both directions will be detoured to North Lake Way via Dunbar and Kawama, the town said. Only local traffic will be allowed to enter the work zone.
