Palm Beach County’s Brooks Koepka withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday, May 25.
Koepka had played at Colonial Country Club just twice before, finishing second in 2018 and T-32 in 2020.
Koepka, 36 and a nine-time PGA Tour winner, returned to the Tour earlier this season from LIV Golf. He has made 10 starts and seven cuts this season, recording five top 25s and one top 10, a T-9 at the Cognizant Classic in March.
Koepka, who had played four of the last five weeks, finished T-14 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday. He has committed to play in the RBC Canadian Open in two weeks and is exempt into the U.S. Open, which he won in 2018, the last time it was played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, which will be the site of this year’s Open in three weeks.
News of his WD had to be a big disappointment for the alternates. Had Koepka remained in the 132-man field at the Charles Schwab Challenge, the size would have been expanded to 135.
The Charles Schwab Challenge field already was weakened by Jordan Spieth skipping for the first time in his career and no Scottie Scheffler either. Denny McCarthy and David Ford also withdrew on Sunday.
