A 15-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder area Feb. 9 while walking with a group of friends, according to Fort Pierce Police.
Police just before 3 p.m. Feb. 9 went to the 900 block of North 23rd Street after reports of a shooting, the agency stated.
Officers found the teen with “an apparent gunshot wound.” He was conscious and taken to a local hospital.
Maj. Michael Santiago said the 15-year-old was walking with friends as another group was walking nearby. The other group began firing.
Someone in the 15-year-old’s group then returned fire, Santiago said.
“It was an exchange of gunfire,” Santiago said.
He said it appears the aggressors made efforts to conceal their face.
The 15-year-old boy was struck in the upper back/shoulder area, Santiago said.
Police stated the investigation is active.
