A Lakeland man died in a motorcycle crash the evening of June 3, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies were dispatched along with Polk County Fire Rescue at 7:38 p.m. to the crash scene at 4000 Frontage Road S, PCSO said in a news release. According to the preliminary investigation, Jefree Reyneri Calles Orozco, operating a red and white 2026 Yamaha YZFR7 motorcycle, appears to have been exiting a parking lot onto an exit lane from the commerce park, when the bike made slight contact with the rear of a trailer of a semi-truck that was stopped in the exit lane and waiting to enter the roadway of Frontage Road South.
The impact was minor but enough to cause the motorcyclist, of Lakeland, to lose control of the bike, PCSO. The motorcycle and the rider both struck a nearby curb.
The victim, age 24, was wearing a helmet, PCSO said.
First responders arrived within minutes and began life-saving measures. The driver was taken to a hospital and died shortly after arriving, PCSO said.
No charges are anticipated, but the crash remains under investigation, PCSO said.
