Ottawa County’s population grew in 2025 — and, according to recently released data, so did most of the region’s two dozen municipalities.
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau shared June 1, an impressive 20 cities, villages and townships saw population growth between 2024 and 2025.
The overall population grew by 2,269 people or 0.7%, bringing the total number of residents in Ottawa County to 308,459. It remains the seventh largest county in Michigan.
In terms of percentage growth, Jamestown Township led the charge for local municipalities for the third consecutive year, with an increase of 2.4%. Port Sheldon Township and Grand Haven Township followed, each at 1.8%.
Other significant growth was seen in Allendale Township (1.4%), the City of Holland (1.1% including Allegan County) and Holland Township (1%).
Estimates show that seven municipalities grew by at least 100 residents between 2024 and 2025: Holland Township (408), Holland (381), Allendale Township (367), Grand Haven Township (349), Jamestown Township (250), Park Township (204) and Georgetown Township (133).
Only four municipalities saw a population decline: the City of Zeeland, the City of Coopersville, the Village of Spring Lake and the City of Ferrysburg. The decreases, however, represented a total of just 36 people.
Zeeland saw the biggest decline in residents at 19, followed by Coopersville (8), Spring Lake (7) and Ferrysburg (2). Zeeland has seen the largest decline in Ottawa County since 2020, losing 1.4% of the municipality’s population, or 101 residents.
Georgetown Township remains the largest municipality by number in Ottawa County, now with 55,682 residents. Holland Township is second with 40,862, followed by the City of Holland with 35,372 (including the portion of Holland found in Allegan County).
The top five also includes Allendale Township (27,519) and Grand Haven Township (19,981).
Chester Township remains the smallest municipality by number in Ottawa County, with just 2,177 residents. The bottom five also includes the Village of Spring Lake (2,504), Polkton Township (2,616), the City of Ferrysburg (2,955) and Wright Township (3,185).
