Florida State is having a great week when it comes to its 2027 recruiting class. Before they landed four-star cornerback Bryce Williams on Tuesday, they got a pledge from four-star athlete Kaneilius Purdy on Monday, giving the Seminoles their fourth commitment of the cycle and the best class in the country.
Purdy only took two visits to FSU before he committed. The first came last February when he attended the Seminoles Junior Day festivities, and the other came at the same event last December. There’s a reason why it didn’t take much for Purdy to be convinced to commit to the Seminoles.
“It felt good man, I love FSU,” Purdy told Rivals. “It’s been my dream school. The coaches were happy, jumping around and everything.
“Because Florida State University is known for its rich tradition of excellence, both academically and athletically. The campus is beautiful, with a strong sense of community and school spirit that makes it feel like home. FSU’s football program has a storied history, with passionate fans and a culture of winning. Beyond sports, the university offers top-tier programs in business, engineering, and the arts, making it a great place to grow and succeed.”
Rivals has Purdy as the No. 97 overall recruit and the nation’s No. 7 athlete. The 6-foot, 190-pounder is the No. 9 prospect out of Florida as well.
Purdy does it all at Lake Wales High School. He plays quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and even some defensive back. He’s rushed for 175 and scored three touchdowns over the last two seasons, and he’s also registered 76 receptions for 1,448 yards and 20 touchdowns (19.1 yards per catch) over that span. Defensively, Purdy has produced 50 tackles, two interceptions, one pass breakup, and two forced fumbles.
According to Purdy, Florida State’s plan is to maximize his talents, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
“They’re gonna have me all around,” Purdy said. “He (Norvell) said I fit good with their offense and he’s gonna put the ball in the playmaker’s hands.”
Purdy will return to campus sometime later this week.
