It involved a black Nissan Rogue SUV and a white GMC 5500 pickup truck, officials said.

The Nissan had been headed south along Sheep Creek Road, north of Dos Palmas Road, according to a CHP statement. The pickup truck was believed to have been stopped in the southbound lanes at Dos Palmas Road.

“For reasons still under investigation, a traffic crash occurred involving both vehicles at the intersection,” the statement said. The SUV overturned in the collision.

A woman riding as a passenger in the Nissan died from her injuries at the scene, officials said. Her identity was not yet released by coroner’s officials.

A man who had been driving the Nissan was hospitalized.

The involved pickup truck “fled the scene and was located abandoned in the desert,” according to the statement. “The driver of the GMC fled in an unknown direction.”

No further details were available.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, was asked to contact Officer T. Frias of the CHP’s Victorville Area Office at (760) 241-1186.
