Prosecutors have filed a murder case against an Apple Valley man in connection with the fatal shooting of another man near Doris Davies Park in Victorville on Christmas Eve nearly seven years ago.
Robert Pedregon, 40, is accused of shooting and killing 27-year-old Richard Ambriz of Victorville during the early-morning hours of Dec. 24, 2019, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials and San Bernardino County Superior Court records.
He appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, May 20, where he was ordered to stand trial on charges of murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, records show. An arraignment hearing was scheduled for June 4.
Pedregon was arrested in Hesperia in November 2025 in connection with other allegations before being charged with the 2019 homicide, county jail records show.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges on May 12, and also denied special, sentence-enhancing allegations of using a gun in the crime, causing great bodily injury and having a prior “serious felony convictions.”
The shooting
Reports of gunfire shortly after 1 a.m. first drew deputies to the 16000 block of Pebble Beach Drive in Victorville, near Doris Davies Park, sheriff’s officials said at the time.
“Deputies and medical personnel arrived and found a man, later identified as Richard Ambriz, laying face down and unresponsive on the street,” according to a statement from the agency. “Ambriz was suffering from gunshot wounds and medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.”
Further details, including a motive in the shooting, have not been released.
Pedregon was being held without bail pending legal proceedings.
