Where weekend 'ICE Out' protests are planned across California

Protests are sweeping across California this weekend as outrage grows over the Trump administration’s handling of immigration enforcement and Venezuela policy.

The demonstrations follow the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, an incident activists say reflects “a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse” by federal immigration agencies.

The movement, branded by many as “ICE Out For Good,” is gaining traction statewide. Organizers are calling for the removal of ICE agents from communities and demanding an end to what they describe as “Venezuelan occupation.”

The protests also come just days after the U.S. seized Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife on Jan. 3, with President Trump vowing to “run” the nation until a democratic transition occurs. Critics argue the administration’s focus on Venezuela’s oil industry is fueling unrest.

Adding to tensions, two individuals were shot and injured by a federal agent in Portland on Jan. 8. Homeland Security claims both have gang affiliations, but activists say the shootings underscore systemic issues with immigration enforcement.

Here’s what to know about this weekend’s protests in California.

Where Californians are taking to the streets

Protests are planned across the state on Saturday, Jan. 10, and Sunday, Jan. 11, with organizers urging participants to bring signs, water, and masks. Here’s a non-exhaustive list:

Southern California

Demonstrations are planned across Los Angeles County and beyond, including Palm Springs, Borrego Springs, and other Coachella Valley communities. Faith leaders rallied in L.A. on Jan. 8, demanding a full investigation into Good’s death, while Boyle Heights saw a large turnout that evening. Expect weekend protests in Aliso Viejo, Big Bear Lake, Chula Vista, Encinitas, Huntington Beach, Laguna Hills, Lakewood, Oxnard, Pasadena, Palmdale, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Ana, Santa Barbara, Santa Clarita, Seal Beach, Signal Hill, Sierra Madre, Temecula, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, Woodland Hills—and notably, Palm Springs, a focal point for Coachella Valley activism.

Central Valley

Organizers confirm that rallies in Fresno, Bakersfield, and Modesto are being coordinated alongside statewide efforts, spotlighting concerns about ICE’s presence in agricultural hubs. Local chapters of Indivisible and immigrant rights groups are expected to lead marches demanding accountability and policy change.

Northern California

From Sacramento to the Bay Area, protests continue in Berkeley, Chico, Concord, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Richmond, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Cruz, and more.

What should I bring to a protest?

Experts at Physicians for Human Rights suggest bringing the following:

Many organizations advise protesters to leave their phones at home to protect their privacy, as they can easily be tracked. If you must take your phone, keep it turned off until you need it, and before you go, disable Face ID or fingerprint security and stick with the 6-digit passcode instead. You may also consider buying a cheap secondary phone to use.

Also, if you bring a phone, bring a backup power source if possible, according to the Human Rights Campaign. Other suggestions the LGBTQ+ civil rights organization has for what to bring to a protest are:
