The Warriors are searching for bargains this offseason as the team hopes to fill out their roster while maintaining as much cap space as possible to bring in a star-caliber player. For that reason, Anthony Slater of ESPN reported that Golden State was interested in reuniting with Kristaps Porzingis on “a short-term deal at a reduced rate from the $30.7 million he played for last season.”
Following that report, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed that both sides are “indeed progressing” in extension talks, which would bring Porzingis back to the Bay Area. This new contract is likely to be at a much lower rate than the three-year $116.2 million extension the Latvian center is eligible to sign.
While a deal hasn’t yet been completed, the progress should encourage Warriors fans, as it seems the former NBA champion is interested in playing at a discount instead of testing the free agent market. But this could certainly change as Golden State’s summer includes many moving parts.
