Golden State Warriors fans received a brutal update regarding Stephen Curry’s recovery from a persistent knee injury on Wednesday, March 25. Steve Kerr informed the media that the superstar point guard is yet to scrimmage with the team — something that is seen as a significant checkmark for his path toward getting back out on the court.
“Steph Curry still hasn’t scrimmaged, Steve Kerr said,” Danny Emerman posted on X. “Team had hoped to get him live work over the past few days. Update to come later this week.”
Just days earlier, Kerr had told the media that Curry was scheduled to work out with the Warriors on Sunday, March 22. Had that scrimmage occurred, Golden State’s medical staff would have evaluated his progress. The scrimmage was planned to be a full five-on-five.
“He’s going to play (scrimmage) tomorrow morning here, before we go to Dallas,” Kerr said, via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “So there will be whatever players and coaches who are available to play. And Rick (Rick Celebrini) will evaluate him. And that’s the next step. I think 5 on 5. That’s the plan. Don’t quote me on that. We would like for it to be five on five, but that’s going to be determined by Rick.”
The Warriors have nine regular-season games remaining. They’re currently the 10th seed in the Western Conference. As such, they will face a gruelling play-in tournament, where they will need to win consecutive knock-out games in order to qualify for the postseason.
With so few games remaining, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that we will see Curry back on the court this season. After all, at some point, the coaching and medical staff need to weigh up the value of Curry playing against the risk of re-aggravating his knee injury.
