Homicide detectives are seeking an “armed and dangerous” man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 64-year-old woman in Palmdale on Thursday.
Brandon Tyrell Simmons, 33, is suspected in the killing, which was first reported just before 8:30 p.m. May 14 in the 2600 block of West Avenue N-8, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim succumbed to her injuries at a hospital a short time later, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement. Her identity was yet to be released by coroner’s officials.
“During the course of the investigation, homicide investigators were able to positively identify the suspect who committed the murder as a relative of the victim,” the statement said. He was last seen leaving the area on foot.
Simmons “has a history of mental health issues and should be considered armed and dangerous,” the statement added. Officials described him as suffering from both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
The suspect, who is known to frequent both Palmdale and Lancaster, was described as Black, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, white socks and shoes with blue and red stripes.
