The Westpark Skatepark in Ventura unveiled its $2.3 million facelift on Aug. 28.
The city celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open skate for the park, which expanded six-fold from about 3,200 square feet to about 20,000 square feet.

“It’s sick,” said Samson Davis, 13, of Ventura, who wore a pink and black helmet with a plaid shirt and long, gray shorts. “It’s got a lot of different obstacles — it’s big enough for a lot of people to be here and not be running into each other.”
The total cost of the renovations was approximately $2.3 million, with $322,000 coming from the Parks and Recreation capital improvement fund, said Jennifer Nance, city spokesperson.
The rest came from a $1.9 million grant from the California Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program and $10,000 from local skateboarders.
The park was closed from September 2024 for the construction, Nance said.
Nick Coronado, 23, of Ventura, said he had been jumping the gates around the park to use the park a couple of months ago.
“It’s sweet, perfect,” Coronado said. “It’s got a little bit of everything. You got vert skating, you got a bowl, you got street skating.”
Grindline Skateparks, a Seattle-based firm, designed and built the park, which officials say is the largest skate park in Ventura County.
