The UCLA Bruins’ women’s basketball season is nearly here, with Cori Close and her team beginning their regular season in Anaheim on Monday against the San Diego State Aztecs. UCLA has big expectations coming off a Final Four appearance a season ago. They figure to be just as competitive this season.
Let’s take a look at the Bruins’ schedule for Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice’s senior season and highlight some big matchups.
Season Opener: November 3, San Diego State
UCLA should start the season 1-0 while facing some Mountain West Conference competition.
Home Opener: November 6, UC Santa Barbara
Pauley Pavilion’s first look at this year’s Bruins team will come against the Gauchos.
Top-10 showdown: November 10, Oklahoma
UCLA heads to the Golden 1 Center to face the Sooners.
WBCA Challenge: November 13, North Carolina
UCLA’s first tournament of the season takes place in Las Vegas where they’ll face the Tar Heels and USF.
November 15, South Florida
UCLA is not generally playing cupcakes in nonconference action.
November 23, Southern
This is one of the few cupcakes UCLA is playing.
Player’s Era Women’s Championship: November 26, Texas
Bruins get a look at one of the top teams in the country in the Player’s Era Women’s Championship.
Home SEC matchup: November 30, Tennessee
The Vols head to LA for the Nico Iamaleava Bowl.
First look at Big Ten competition: December 7, Oregon
UCLA will face the Ducks in a non-conference matchup.
December 16, Cal Poly
UCLA downshifts in mid-December due to exams and pre-Christmas distractions.
December 20, Long Beach State
The last game before Christmas.
Conference openers: December 28 at Ohio State, December 31 at Penn State
The Bruins begin Big Ten action with a road trip to face Ohio State and Penn State.
First look at the Trojans: January 3, USC
UCLA comes home for their first home Big Ten game before heading back east.
Road trip — January 11 at Nebraska, January 14 at Minnesota
UCLA gets a full week of rest after the USC game. The Bruins will need it for this trip.
Terps come to Pauley: January 18, Maryland
Maryland comes to town for a battle of Big Ten Conference favorites.
January 21, Purdue
UCLA should make quick work of the Boilermakers.
January 25, at Northwestern
UCLA never did play Northwestern last year due to the wildfires and NU’s decision to not fly to LA.
January 28, at Illinois
This could be a tricky road game.
February 1 vs Iowa
UCLA gets the Hawkeyes at home after a nail-biter last season in Iowa City.
February 4 vs Rutgers
This game does not figure to be especially challenging.
Tough trip — February 8 at Michigan, February 11 at Michigan State
This should be a great test heading into March Madness.
Homestand — Feb. 15 Indiana, Feb. 19 Washington, Feb. 22 Wisconsin
A three-game homestand should give UCLA a chance to gear up for March.
Regular season ends at the Galen Center: March 1, USC
Could the Big Ten regular season title come down to this game against the Trojans?
Big Ten Tournament: March 4-8
UCLA will head to Indianapolis searching for a second-straight Big Ten tournament win.
NCAA Tournament: March 18-April 5
It’s championship or bust for the Bruins this season.
