A head-on collision between a pickup truck and an SUV in Oro Grande on Wednesday left a 19-year-old man dead and two other people injured.
Cody Howell of Oro Grande was killed in the crash just before 7 a.m. May 13 on the southbound side of National Trails Highway, just north of Robinson Ranch Road, in the unincorporated county area, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s officials.
He was driving a Chevrolet Suburban south on the highway, with a woman riding as a passenger, prior to the impact, the California Highway Patrol said in a written statement. Meanwhile, a Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling north.
“For reasons still under investigation, both drivers crashed head on following an unknown sequence of events,” the statement said.
Howell died from his injuries at the scene, officials said.
His passenger, as well as the driver of the truck, were hospitalized in unknown condition, according to the CHP.
The investigation was ongoing. No further details were available.
Any witnesses, or anyone with information, was urged to contact Officer A. Navarro of the CHP’s Victorville Area Office at (760) 241-1186.
