UCLA softball was unable to get revenge against Tennessee and instead was thrashed 11-0 at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla., on Saturday.
Last year, the Bruins’ season came to an end against the Volunteers in a 5-4 loss in the Women’s College World Series. UCLA won’t get back there if this game against Tennessee represents where the Bruins currently rank among playoff contenders. UCLA lost twice on Saturday, also falling to Florida State. Bruin pitchers gave up 11 runs in both games, a clear cause for concern early in the 2026 season.

Sophomore infielder Kaniya Bragg was the only Bruin to get a hit versus Tennessee, a double in the top of the second. UCLA was unable to score her.
Everything would get worse for the Bruins in the bottom of the third when Tennessee scored eight runs. The thrashing would continue in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs by the Volunteers, which was more than enough to end the game in the top of the fifth by the mercy rule.
The Bruins had two pitchers, freshman Natalie Cable and sophomore Brynne Nally, who each allowed four hits. Cable pitched a little over two innings, allowing six earned runs and three walks. Nally pitched 1 2/3 innings and also had a fair amount of difficulty stopping the Volunteers, allowing four runs and a walk.
