UCLA football great Troy Aikman commented on New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart winning his first NFL game on Sunday. Aikman brought up the fact that Dark chose the rival USC Trojans over the Bruins on ESPN.
The NFL and UCLA Hall of Fame quarterback had nothing but praise to heap on the young quarterback, except, of course, Dart’s college decision. Aikman revealed he was actively trying to recruit Dart to be a Bruin before Dart chose the Trojans in 2021.
“I said it a couple weeks ago when we were talking about another quarterback, but you look at a guy differently when he comes back and he’s able to do what Jaxson Dart was able to do yesterday,” Aikman said. “My only problem with Jaxson Dart- I tried recruiting him to UCLA a few years back, and he went to the crosstown rival.”
Aikman has been an advocate for Bruins football in the past, so it’s not surprising that he did his best to recruit a talented, young signal caller.
Although the crosstown rival USC Trojans beat out the Bruins for Dart, he only played a season for them before he transferred to the SEC’s Ole Miss Rebels, where he would make a name for himself as the starting quarterback and eventual 2025 NFL Draft first-round pick.
Dart’s first win came against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers in a 21-18 ousting. The rookie quarterback got banged up during the game, but was able to rack up 111-passing yards for a touchdown and 54-rushing yards for a rushing touchdown, according to ESPN.
