Three UCLA players selected in professional softball league draft

It’s not quite the same as the six UCLA Bruins that were drafted in last month’s WNBA Draft, but UCLA softball saw three more players drafted on Monday. The Bruins had a trio of seniors taken in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) draft.

The AUSL was founded in 2024, with the league having six teams for their 30 game regular season. UCLA saw pitcher Taylor Tinsley and sluggers Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery selected.

It’s not all that surprising of news that the three Bruins were drafted though, the AUSL distributed Golden Tickets to draft picks last month. Both Grant and Woolery were first round selections while Tinsley was taken with the final pick in the second round.

Tinsley has 65 wins in her 126 appearances as a Bruin, pitching to a 2.33 earned run average for her career.

Grant and Woolery have both had transcendent careers at the plate for UCLA. Woolery is batting .513 on the season and is at .411 for her Bruins career while crushing 76 career home runs. Grant’s power has been even more prolific with 84 career bombs and a lifetime batting average of .375.

Grant was the first Bruin off the board at the No. 4 pick with the Portland Cascade. Woolery was the final pick of the first round, going sixth overall to the defending champion Utah Talons. Tinsley will join Woolery in Utah, as the Talons used their very next pick on another Bruin.

UCLA was one of two schools with three players selected, with the Florida Gators being the only other team this year to accomplish the feat.
