Investigators arrested one suspect and were seeking another after they allegedly beat and shot at a man during a failed carjacking in Adelanto, authorities said Wednesday, Feb. 11.

The crime unfolded about 2:35 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, in a residential neighborhood in the 18600 block of Casaba Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

Deputies responded to a report of gunfire when they learned that two attackers had approached a man before one of them pointed a handgun at the victim and struck him in the head with an object, sheriff’s officials said.

“It was reported that the second suspect also assaulted the victim,” according to a statement from the department. “The suspects attempted to take the victim’s vehicle but were unsuccessful.”

The gun-wielding suspect that shot at the victim, but he was not struck, authorities said. They fled the area before deputies arrived.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene for apparently minor injuries.

Deputies soon identified Reondre Dwayne Green, 26, of Adelanto as the alleged gunman, according to sheriff’s officials and county jail records.

A Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, or SWAT, team found and arrested Green Tuesday, Feb. 10, while carrying out a search warrant in the 23000 block of Yucca Loma Road in Apple Valley.

He was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted carjacking, criminal conspiracy and violating the terms of probations stemming from a prior felony conviction, records show. He was being held without bail pending legal proceedings.

The second attacker remained at-large.

He was described by sheriff’s officials as a Black man, about 6 feet tall, with a muscular build.
