The Redding Police Department announced several roads are closed due to flooding from storms on Sunday, Dec. 21.
The road closures were in effect as of 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, and a shelter had opened to residents who were forced to leave their neighborhoods due to flooding or power outages.
The shelter is being opened by the American Red Cross at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2850 Foothill Boulevard on the city’s west side.
“Roads leading to the shelter may still be flooded. If it is safe to do so, community members are encouraged to shelter in place until conditions improve,” the police said in its announcement posted on Facebook.
Pets were not permitted at the shelter.
Power outages in Redding
A city map showed power outages that were affecting more than 250 Redding Electric Utility customers on the east side were resolved late Sunday night. That neighborhood took in Shasta View Drive, bound by Sterling Drive, Airstrip Road and Viking Way.
On the city’s south side, the storm knocked down power in the Country Heights neighborhood for nearly three hours, from just after 4 p.m. to shortly before 7 p.m.
The city also reported a significant outage to neighborhoods in central Redding just north of East Cypress Avenue and east of the Sacramento River. There were also outages on streets at Cypress and Churn Creek Road. Those outages also were resolved, the city map showed.
