Shots fired during standoff with armed suspect in Phelan

Deputies fired gunshots, but no one was struck, during a standoff with an armed man at a Phelan home, officials said.

The incident began about 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, with a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 11100 block of Anderson Rancho Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

A man “was reportedly intoxicated and began damaging property inside the home he shared with his ex-wife and children,” sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.

Upon deputies’ arrival, the man armed himself with a gun, officials said.

“(He) ignored multiple commands to put the weapon down and advanced toward the deputy, the statement said. “A lethal force encounter occurred.”

The suspect, who was not struck by the gunfire, retreated back into the home, authorities said.

Ultimately, he complied with orders to surrender and was taken into custody.

Perez was not struck and retreated into the residence. The deputy again gave Perez commands to surrender. Perez later exited the home and was arrested by deputies. No injuries were reported, and Perez was taken into custody.

Anthony Perez, 40, of Phelan was arrested on suspicion of exhibiting a firearm while resisting arrests and resisting or obstructing police, county booking records show.

Due to additional pending criminal cases, bail was set at $176,000. Perez also had an outstanding warrant related to a DUI case in Los Angeles County.
