Fairport and Penfield have been the standard-bearers in recent Class A history. The two programs have combined to win each of the last three Section V titles and two state titles over the last three seasons.
Expect the teams to continue to jostle for positioning this spring. This week, Fairport overtook Penfield as Class A’s top local team in the latest New York state rankings.
The Red Raiders are on a six-game winning streak, that includes victories against two state-ranked teams: Cicero-North Syracuse (Section III) and Canandaigua.
Biggest rise: Palmyra-Macedon, not listed last week, is up to 16th in Class D thanks to four consecutive wins.
Biggest fall: A handful of local teams dropped a few spots this week. That includes Penfield, which is down to 10th from sixth in Class A.
