In the mood for some live entertainment this weekend? Here are The Desert Sun’s picks for the can’t-miss live performances in the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities April 30-May 2.
HOT PICK
Sheryl Crow at Agua Caliente Casino
Rock: If the 1990s had a soundtrack, Sheryl Crow wrote half of it. Her 1994 hit “All I Wanna Do” was only the beginning, and songs such as “If It Makes You Happy” and “Everyday Is A Winding Road” continued that success.
Her appeal and diverse audience is attributed to her recordings across multiple genres, including rock, pop, blues, country, folk, and more. She has collaborated with artists like Kid Rock, Vince Gill, and Counting Crows.
Crow will perform on Saturday at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa.
If you go: 8 p.m. Saturday, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage. Tickets $129.95 to $199.95. aguacalientecasinos.com
BEST BETS
SUSS at Mojave Gold
Country: The New York band SUSS is not a typical country band. These musicians perform what has been described as “ambient country,” blending traditional instruments such as guitar, pedal steel, harmonica, mandolin, and harmonium with synthesizers and loops. Think of it as Brian Eno meets the Grand Ole Opry.
SUSS will perform on Thursday at Mojave Gold.
If you go: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Mojave Gold, 56-193 Twentynine Palms Highway, Yucca Valley. Tickets $19.52 to $23.70. mojavegolddesert.com
Warrant at Agua Caliente Casino
Rock: The ‘80s glam-metal band Warrant is renowned for hits such as “Down Boys,” “Sometimes She Cries,” and the massive hit “Heaven.” Even though frontman Jani Lane died in 2011, the band continues on with Robert Mason and original members Jerry Dixon, Steven Sweet, Joey Allen and Erik Turner. Warrant will perform on Thursday at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa.
Also performing will be the ‘90s rock band Firehouse, known for the songs “Don’t Treat Me Bad,” “When I Look into Your Eyes,” and “Love of a Lifetime.”
If you go: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage. Tickets $44.95 to $99.95. aguacalientecasinos.com
Emily Nenni at Pappy and Harriet’s
Country: Emily Nenni is making honky-tonk music cool again. The California native draws inspiration from renowned artists such as Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder for her upcoming album, “Movin’ Shoes,” which will be released on Friday, May 1, when she performs at Pappy and Harriet’s. Her songs are filled with grit, humor and heartfelt stories about everyday people trying to get by.
If you go: 9:30 p.m. Friday, Pappy and Harriet’s, 53-688 Pioneertown Road, Pioneertown. Tickets $26.68. pappyandharriets.com
