The Los Angeles Rams are in Kansas City today for their preseason opener against the Chiefs, which is the NFL debut for Ty Simpson and the other rookies. Though the Rams are holding out their starters and key players, there are plenty of reasons to watch this first exhibition game.
Stetson Bennett is starting things off at quarterback, with Simpson coming in in relief, giving Matthew Stafford the day off. On defense, Myles Garrett and the other stars will stay on the sidelines, opening the door for players such as Tim Keenan III and Cam Lampkin to step up.
We’re providing live updates throughout the game, so be sure to follow along below.

Rookie Keagen Trost ruled out with hamstring injury
Trost suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter and was quickly ruled out by the team. He had been playing right tackle before going down.
Ty Simpson enters the game after 2 series for Stetson Bennett

This is Simpson’s first NFL action after being the 13th overall pick in the 2026 draft.
Rams settle for FG after near-interception

The Rams will start with the ball first after the Chiefs won the toss and chose to kick off. Mario Williams and Tyler Scott were the kick returners back for the Rams.
Notable players who aren’t suiting up
Ronnie Rivers, Konata Mumpfield, Jordan Whittington, Josaiah Stewart, Tyler Davis and Josh Wallace are not dressed for this game, an indication that their spots on the 53-man roster are probably safe. That’s not surprising for Mumpfield, Whittington, Stewart or Davis, but it is a good sign for Rivers and Wallace.
New uniforms looking good
The Rams are rocking their updated uniforms for the first time, showing off the cleaner look with refined horns on the sleeves.
