An Oxnard man was charged with felony burglary in Ventura County Superior Court on June 2, stemming from an alleged burglary incident near Silver Strand Beach over a week earlier.
The 31-year-old man pleaded not guilty to the felony charge and denied several special allegations, including that the felony was violent, according to court records. Such allegations bring with them the possibility of increased sentencing if found guilty.
The charge stems from an incident on May 23, where the man and another person had allegedly stolen several expensive tools and a high-end electric bicycle from a home in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Court, according to a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The sheriff’s office is contracted to provide police services in unincorporated areas of Ventura County, including the area of Silver Strand just outside of Oxnard.
Deputies arrived to the neighborhood around 4:30 p.m., canvased the area and obtained surveillance footage that showed two suspects, who were believed to be working together, the sheriff’s office said. One man was seen leaving the victim’s home in the stolen e-bike while the other was seen following in a vehicle.
On May 30 around 1 p.m., sheriff’s investigators located the man’s vehicle driving near the 2000 block of Ocean Drive and pulled the vehicle over, sheriff’s officials said. The lone occupant, the 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Detectives searched the vehicle and found evidence of the burglary he was allegedly involved in a week earlier, the sheriff’s office said. They also learned the man was the suspect in a separate active sheriff’s burglary investigation.
The other person remains at large, and the sheriff’s office has requested that anyone with information call Detective Robert Rawston at 805-654-9511.
The Oxnard man was booked into Ventura County jail but was released on $100,000 bond on June 2, records show. He is scheduled to return to court on June 9.
