Oak View man gets 6 years for attack
An Oak View man was sentenced to six years in prison in Ventura County Superior Court on Jan. 21 for a 2022 domestic violence incident.
Christopher Lee Wieser, 45, was previously convicted on Sept. 22 of felonies for inflicting corporal injury on a cohabitant, attempted aggravated mayhem and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, according to a Ventura County District Attorney’s Office news release.
Special allegations, including that the victim was vulnerable and that the domestic violence caused great bodily injury, were found true.
The charges stem from an incident on April 14, 2022, when Wieser had committed a series of attacks on a woman inside their home, the DA’s office said.
Wieser had reportedly punched the victim, causing her to lose consciousness, DA’s officials said. He also strangled her and scratched her cheek with a piece of glass from a picture frame he broke.
The attacks continued until the next morning when the woman was able to escape, find help and report the crime to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, officials said.
4 plead guilty in Simi Valley jewelry heist
Three men, aged 38 to 27, and one woman, 26, have pleaded guilty to charges related to two burglaries in Simi Valley, according to a Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Jan. 21 news release.
The charges stem from a May 25 burglary involving a jewelry store and confectionery and coffee shop in which losses exceeded $2 million, the DA’s office said.
Two of the three men also burglarized and vandalized a Simi Valley pawn business on May 23, DA officials said. The woman also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess stolen property.
All four also admitted to special allegations, including losses exceeding $1 million and theft or damage committed while coordinating closely with others, according to the DA’s office. The crew admitted to the aggravating factor that “the manner in which the crimes were carried out demonstrated planning, sophistication and professionalism.”
Before committing the heist, the investigation found that the burglary crew conducted surveillance of its target businesses and planned out some of the steps such as spray painting security cameras, the DA’s office said.
The defendants are scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 20 in Ventura County Superior Court. They face more than four years in custody and remain in Ventura County jail with bail set for each of $100,000.
The Simi Valley Police Department conducted the investigation.
