Lanes closed for sinkhole on Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert

A sinkhole on Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert is causing some lanes to be closed on Tuesday.

The city of Palm Desert announced the right two lanes of the westbound portion of the road would be closed starting at 10:30 a.m. between Warner Trail and California Drive, a stretch of one mile. Only the left lane will remain open.

The right two lanes were set to reopen at 2:30 p.m.

The sinkhole itself is between California Drive and Tennessee Avenue, which is about half a mile west of Warner Trail.

The city warned that delays are possible, and motorists were urged to use alternate routes.
