A fire that erupted on July 4 at Fillmore High School burned construction material and caused around $120,000 in damages.
Firefighters with the Fillmore and Ventura County Fire Departments, alongside Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies, responded to reports of a fire around 11:42 p.m., according to a news release. The sheriff’s office is contracted with the city of Fillmore for police services.
At the high school, deputies and firefighters found construction material stored in a campus parking lot on fire. Because of its location, the fire did not threaten any school structures.
Firefighters spent the next several hours bringing the flame under control before successfully extinguishing it.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation. Those with information are encouraged to contact detectives and submit any video footage of the incident to this link.
Fillmore High School is currently building a 43,000-square-foot sports complex that is expected to cost around $27.7 million. It is unknown at this time if the building materials that caught fire were for this project.
Fillmore Unified School District and Fillmore High School did not respond to requests for comment.
